Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Buy Next-Door Neighbor’s Teardown

A-list supercouple snaps up adjacent $2.9 million property in a bid for a little privacy.

The price of extra privacy for Kimye? $2,925,000. In an effort to own the block and have some sense of privacy in their very, very public lives, Kim Kardashian and husband Kanye West just scooped up the home directly next door to their amazing new Hidden Hills mansion, paying nearly $3,000,000 for a 2,842-square-foot home on 149 acres. The deal closed on December 15, 2014.

The “weathered” home is a prime candidate for demolition, especially since the wood-and-brick ranch-style home is a complete mismatch to the ultraluxurious, high-end home Kim and Kanye paid $20,000,000 for earlier this year. Kim and Kanye are likely to tack on this acreage to their already sprawling estate that currently includes rolling lawns, a massive pool, outdoor entertaining areas, and a vineyard. Yes, a vineyard.

It’s a very A-list, ultrarich move to snap up your neighbor’s home in an effort to expand the property line and keep neighbors at bay. Facebook CEO and multibillionaire Mark Zuckerberg paid a collective $30,000,000  for all the homes around his $7,000,000 Palo Alto, CA, home in October 2013. Tesla CEO and fellow billionaire Elon Musk made the same move in Bel Air a month later, paying $6,750,000 for the home closest to his massive mansion. In 2012, former Disney head honcho Michael Eisner paid $8,200,000 for his neighbor’s pad in Bel Air.

When you’ve got cash to burn and paparazzi stalking your every move, it’s a smart real estate move to stake claim to as much of the block as you can.

If you are your own neighbor, you know you won’t have any issues.
