Lynn Haven is the most desirable area in panama city. Most of the Northshore is a slight older community compared with a few other subdivisions. I would careful with buying a house more than 10 years old.

Look for rentals that allow you to do short-term rentals. I also have a CPA who is familiar with International Buyers and Immigration attys. who can answer questions for you. Find a good local Realtor who can assist you both a purchase and the international concerns you may have.

Phil's comment is a very good one....be on the safe side and consider a 2-3 month rental to get a good feel for the location you want to finally be in. You may even be able to find a rental in the area you are targerting now.

We have a nice home listed in Northshore. It is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath however. You have chosen a GREAT neighborhood with first rate schools and a very nice community. You will however want to pay attention to a particular property's location in relationship to the flood zone.

Linda,
Just my opinion, how about renting 7 months to a year. Learn the area, traffic patterns, where you will shop. Why buy before hurricane season is over? The Panhandle gets hit on a regular basis. If that GREAT home comes on the market in the mean time, buy it! You will only pay a couple of months rent penalty, a small price.

So often, I see couples too quickly buy and then find themselves selling within 2 years because the house is a bad fit for them.

Good for REALTORS' business but bad for the couples pocketbook. :-(

P.S. If not in love with the Panhandle, consider Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and St. Augustine. Only 1 hurricane in the last 100 years!

Northshore is a nice area of Lynn Haven. I was actually looking at their homes yesterday. Look at 610 Kristanna Drive. Its for sale and is beautiful. Go to the web reference below and I think its fourth one down (for $429,000?). Not sure if that's to much, but its beautiful none-the-less.
