Actor Mark Ruffalo, known for roles in films like Spotlight, has just sold his four-bed, three-bath home in Brooklyn, NY, for $3.125 million. Unfortunately, the sprawling townhouse cost him $3.5 million when he bought it back in 2015 — which means he officially sold it at a loss.
Measuring about 3,000 square feet, this timeless townhouse in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood is quintessential Brooklyn real estate. Legally a three-family residence, the property was reconfigured as a spacious single-family townhouse. Built in 1899, the home embraces its original beauty with dramatic Romanesque wood doors, ornate marble mantels, decorative arches, and wide-plank floors. Bright, oversized windows pair well with high cathedral ceilings.
On the parlor floor, a chef’s kitchen has a six-burner Wolf range and a large granite island. The adjacent sunroom has French doors that open out to a deck and tranquil garden. A curved central staircase leads to the double parlor, which Mark used as two oversized bedrooms. Head upstairs to the additional bedrooms, each with plenty of closet and storage space as well as great views.
Mark isn’t the only Hollywood big shot to embrace life in Brooklyn: John Krasinski and Chris Rock have also owned property here. Mark still owns a small home in the upstate New York town of Callicoon, which he bought back in 2001. But this isn’t his first sale. In 2009, he sold his Hollywood Hills, CA, home to the queen of quirkiness, Zooey Deschanel. If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that famous people love selling their homes to each other!
