What Locals Say about Barkhamsted

  • John Pinton
"Route 20 scenic single lane could be slow. Route 44 heavy traffic. 50 min to Hartford in traffic 21 miles. Route 8 south open. "
  • Michele L. T.
"Barkhamsted is a wonderful town to start a family, raise a family, or retire. There's an abundance of outdoor activities: hiking, fishing, kayaking, museums, bicycling, tubing, skiing, bird-watching, etc. Seems like you're way out in the country, only 20 minutes to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, 40 minutes to Hartford Hospital, 45 minutes to Waterbury, 45 minutes to UCONN in Farmington, 25 minutes to Bradley Int'l Airport. The school system (NW Regional high) is one of the best in the state. Students living here can attend Bristol Tech or Oliver Wolcott Tech after middle school. Transportation is provided (the bus/van picks you up at your front door). Barkhamsted is a hidden gem!"

  • Berdnrd
"Barkhamsted is an ideal rural area with lovely forested areas for recreation, state parks and plenty of wildlife. This is quiet, rustic, country living. It is about ten minutes to the small town of New Hartford and a bit more to Canton. Close to scenic views of the foliage at the reservoir where there is a private beach for residents and public beach for guests. This is a favorite area for bikers, hikers, and wildlife enthusiasts. Well worth the commute to work."
  • AA_maineCT
"Quiet and private; wooded and serene. Close to recreation; access to private association beach on Lake. State Forest across the street from neighborhood."
