What Locals Say about Thompsonville

  • Ssevegney
"It’s a nice little neighborhood there are 2 different parks in walking distance. Also a little corner store"
  • Ashley.pappas85
"Quiet town, nice neighbors. Geno's has the best food!! Short distance to Crystal Mountain and Frankfort. "
  • wallincommunity
"This area is known as Wallin, an unincorporated village dating back to the late 1800s when lumbering attracted settlers, many from Norway. It had everything a settlement needed -- a post office, general store, church, dance hall and school. The Pere Marquette railroad ran through here until the 1960s. Wallin was rebuilt twice after fires caused by hot coals from the trains. After a fire in the 1920s and the end of the lumbering era, residents dismantled any remaining buildings and moved away to find work. Today it is a quiet rural area dotted with homes and a short distance from thousands of acres of state land. The Betsie River, great for paddling and salmon fishing, runs through Wallin. The Benzie Bus is just a phone call away for public transportation, and itt regularly stops in the Village of Thompsonville, just 7 miles away. There are few restaurants a short drive away, as well as a bank, gas station, hardware and grocery store. This little community is off the beaten path but close enough to amenities of Crystal Mountain, Benzonia, Beulah, Copemish, Village of Thompsonville and the larger cities of Manistee, Cadillac and Traverse City....best of both worlds!"
