What Locals Say about Maple Hill

  • Christina F.
"I've lived in this neighborhood for six years. I love it because I live in the country. I'm far enough from the city, but close enough when I need to go shopping. Also, I get to see wildlife at times too."
  • Danielle C.
"I live in Maple Hill, on the Onslow County side, in the Southwest Jacksonville area. This area of Jacksonville has great elementary schools, easy access to shopping (though selection can be limited unless you want to head south about 45min to Wilmington), and the traffic on this end of the County is rarely an issue, regardless of the time of day. I don't go much for the "nightlife" myself, but constantly hear the complaint from friends without kids who say there is little to do here in Jacksonville in regards to a nightlife. As far as entertainment for children and families goes, the County and local organizations, businesses, or schools regularly schedule events and activities that can appeal to a wide range of interests...it's just a matter of being aware of them. Walkability in this area isn't really a factor, since you have to drive to get to anything, even if it's just five minutes up the road. You can take cabs, which can be expensive, but I'm unaware of other public transportation that runs on this end of the County. There are alot of dog parks in the area, but renters and some homeowners can find trouble with "restricted" breeds and mixes of those breeds (Chow, Pitbull, Doberman, German Shepherd, Rottweiler, and even Akita and Mastiff in some areas). There are several horse boarding facilities on this end of the County. All in all, I prefer the Southwest area of Jacksonville to others I've lived in and visited in Onslow County due to the easy access to either Jacksonville City limits or heading down to Wilmington, the low traffic concerns, the good elementary schools, and the newer businesses being built on this end of town."
