"the place is calm, there are a lot of dog owners but it is a little expensive over here in getty square"
  • Trulia User
"Great up and coming city near NYC. Many things to do. It’s close to the river and plenty of new construction. "
  • Aaugustus17bx
"They’re plenty of spaces to walk a dog but let it be known that there isn’t a dog park. There is only ONE located near the Metro North train station. Which is poorly maintained. I don’t have a dog so this does not affect me."
  • Christian070694
"It’s dangerous, especially for a woman or young girl at night. Used to work at the Walgreens, and shelves were emptied to theft daily. Walk down the wrong neighborhood, you will have to walk fast or be prepared to not get robbed. But close to the train, and getting gentrified with million dollar apartment buildings right next to the homeless shelter is. Lived and worked here all my life. And I travel everywhere else in Yonkers when I’m not working or home."
  • Christian070694
"The area isn’t safe to raise children in, or ideal. Most of the buildings to live here have infestation problems, have not been updated, and you will get jumped for walking down the wrong streets. Schools aren’t the best, and the public transportation(although convenient) is the worst with how many people jump on, or hold it up during rush hour. People who live here, don’t want to, they have to."
  • Trulia User
"There is a nice park in the area for walking dogs. Unfortunately most dog owners don’t pick up after their dogs. "
  • Trulia User
"Library in area of Getty square. Police patrol after school in Getty square. Stop and shop store that opened, has games and snacks for kids. I believe that some adults in the area will look out for each other children to be safe. There is a variety of shops for children clothes and footwear for kids in the area. The museum is in the area, restaurants for family in the area "
  • Trulia User
"new business are open in the neighborhood for children and library is in the neighborhood. Police patrol "
  • Trulia User
"There is a Fair in the square it has rides and games for the children to play and a small food festival at the pier it usually comes around during the summer time and they have different kinds of food that you can try from Jamaican food to bbq and even corn dogs they even have movie night at the pier where they play a movie on the side of the library and the kids can watch the movie for free with there friends and family"
  • Trulia User
"Not much. But the organization downtown Yonkers try’s to help to the best of their abilities with events and getting local business together "
  • Trulia User
"it's not safe for kids to be walking there there is ALOT OF DOG POOP it would be good to always watch where you are going"
  • Trulia User
"Too many rats on the streets at night and lots of skunks. There’s lots of people hanging around at night and the streets are often dirty. "
  • Trulia User
"The traffic and business crowd make this a difficult neighborhood for kids to play nearby, but there is plenty of park space within walking distance. The library, the Manor House, the Beazac Center, YMCA, and YWCA are all within walking distance. There is a big Supermarket and many other shops within walking distance."
  • Trulia User
"Recreational park needs to remodel and upgrade for our kids, and more police presence day and night "
  • Trulia User
"There’s nothing really exciting about my neighborhood... if anything, it’s more scary than feeling safe."
  • Trulia User

  • Trulia User

  • Axel C.

"Friendly and safe place to live. Also it’s transportation services are awesome and convenient...metro north and bus services are steps away to Manhattan."
  • Dhawkins
"Not a great place, but not as bad as the rest of Yonkers. Stay out of Getty square area, train is great. Definitely not a place for kids"
  • Albert O.
"I have lived in this neighborhood for over 14 years and I pretty much know everyone being that I worked in the local post office. Most people are friendly and a lot of people mind their own business which is okay. There are a mix of houses and buildings. Parking can be problematic. "
  • Arnie S.
"It is fast growing, has mass transportation, is close to the city and has supermarkets, restaurants and retail stores throughout the area. "
  • Arnie S.
"Close to shopping, restaurants, mass transit and my place of employment. Drawbacks are lack of parking, high rents and high number of homeless people loitering and using parks and other public places as refuges. There are several high rise apartment buildings under construction adding to the street noise. The closing off of sidewalks and road lanes create traffic congestion and unsafe conditions for pedestrians. While there is definitely a lot of renovations and expansions taking place in downtown Yonkers, more progress is needed in cleaning and beautifying the area. "
  • darryl r.
"dogs are mostly welcomed here. as long as your is properly tagged, not a threat to people and you clean up after the dog, it's a great neighborhood "
  • Miminoy234
"We've moved in recently, and although no one is completely hostile, it seems friendly enough. There is mutual respect, kids are playing all the time, no one refuses to lend a helping hand; I can expect to live here for quite a while."
  • Nimbus
"Yonkers, New York State's fourth largest city, is in the midst of a long-awaited renaissance. New construction is happening all the time, our downtown boasts some of the finest restaurants in NYC and Westchester county, and businesses are moving in at a brisk pace. Yonkers has it all: arts, entertainment, dining, nightlife, and natural beauty are all at your doorstep."
  • Aaron
"It’s up and coming but still needs a lot of work. No nightlife or a good grocery store. Also not many restaurants to choose from"
