What Locals Say about Augusta

"EVERY SUMMER THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUTS ON A CAR SHOW TO RAISE FUNDS. IT IS A GOOD TIME AND THE WHOLE TOWN COMES OUT FOR IT. "

"I grew up here, in Augusta. It's a beautiful little village. A perfect retirement location, and a wonderful place to raise your children. Now that my grandmother has passed away, I wish I could afford to buy our family home, as I can't, I do wish that a lovely family moves in and creates just as many wonderful memories as did I and my cousins, aunts and uncle along with our dearly missed grandparents. "We moved to this area just over a year ago. We absolutely love it and hate to leave! We have the best neighbors and best of both worlds in relation to night life and truly lovely settings. We plan to come back down the road and will definitely return to this area!"

"Augusta, MI is a small, safe community with good schools that has an adjacent state park, the Fort Custer Recreational Area, featuring hiking/biking trails, camp sites and three lakes that are good for fishing with one of which also having a nice beach and picnic area. Folks are friendly and neighborly. Augusta is a good option for two-income households especially when one adult works in nearby Kalamazoo and the other works in nearby Battle Creek since it is located between these two larger cities. The downtown area is not large but it features a small park in the village square, library, post office, pharmacy, a few restaurants/bars, a seasonal ice cream shoppe, a 24-hour gas station/convenience store, a specialty flour mill and several other small businesses. Most small businesses cater to the needs of campers and others using the nearby state park, so a surprising number of basic needs can be purchased right in town. For example, the pharmacy carries a little bit of everything including hardware and food. Pizza King in nearby Galesburg delivers to Augusta. The historic Barn Theatre, Michigan's oldest professional equity summer stock theatre company, is located in Augusta and many "Barnies" stay with Augusta residents during the summer. The close by Sherman Lake YMCA is a wonderful recreational facility offering an indoor pool and fitness facilities as well as outdoor camping programs. Golfers will appreciate that there are several world-class golf courses available nearby."
