Meryl Streep Buys Mid-Century Home in Pasadena For $3.6M

Finally, the acting legend has a home for each of her Academy Awards.

With a whopping twenty Oscar nominations under her belt, Meryl Streep is known as one of the most iconic actresses in Hollywood. But it turns out Streep prefers to live a good distance from La-La-Land: She just snagged a three-bed, three-bath home in the sunny Los Angeles city of Pasadena for $3.3 million, and it’s safe to say everyone from Miranda Priestly to Julia Child would approve of this unique property.

Located at the end of a long private drive, Meryl’s new manse is an architectural treasure highlighting the beauty of mid-century modern design. Embodying a zen state of mind, the 3087-square-foot home was designed by famous architects Smith and William to embrace an open floor plan and sense of repose. High ceilings, glass walls, and expansive views from each room blend beautifully with the stunning landscape overlooking the San Gabriel Mountains. With a touch of Japanese inspiration, the dramatic post and beam living room extends outward with large glass facades. Original terrazzo floors and fireplace complement the classic mid-century features. Lavish park-like grounds with mature trees feel more like a Japanese temple or shrine than suburban California, which a swimming pool with rustic boulders in a natural setting appears almost lagoon-like. In fact, the picturesque setting overlooks a part of the property that was once a horse corral. Maybe Streep still has her riding skills from Out of Africa!

Despite being a Hollywood legend (she’s co-starred with everyone from Anne Hathaway and Cher to Alec Baldwin and Julia Roberts) Meryl is generally known for spending her time back east. She owns a home in the picturesque Connecticut enclave of Salisbury, as well as a $10 million home in the Manhattan neighborhood of Tribeca. Finally, a home for every Oscar!
